EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE CLASS: A new and important course, now available in Manzanillo! Do you carry a first aid kit in your car? What about when you go to the beach? What do you do if you get stung by jellyfish? Do you know who to call if there is an emergency? There are many ways you can be prepared.
Get the knowledge to respond quickly with confidence. Our Emergency First Response program can show you how to respond if someone needs help. You'll learn about emergency first aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation).
Learn how to check for breathing and pulse and how to resuscitate an unconscious person, aid a choking victim, how to deal with allergic reactions, asthma, heart attacks, heat stroke, and other emergency response procedures.
Many full time residents have received first aid training in the past, but their card has expired. Refresh and hone your skills. After receiving your card, you may at any time attend future classes for free.
Upon completion of this class, you will be awarded a EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE card that is valid all over the world. This $75 course is offered (in English or Spanish) to Manzanillo residents for $350 pesos, including card and all course materials. The 8-hour course may be taught in 2-hour or 4-hour sessions at any time for your convenience. Instructor Susan Dearing. For more information, call 333-0642, 333-3678 or 044-314-358-5042.
For the Emergency First Response class, we will be distributing cards with important phone numbers on them. Feel free to put your experiences on Bay Watch.
MANZAMIGOS: Want to meet people and make
new friends? Got an hour or two to spare? Looking for something worthwhile to
do? Manzamigos was formed as an association of Mexican and Foreign persons with
an interest in supporting the area and the people of Manzanillo, with Nigel
Rumford as its new president.
The by-laws of Manzamigos allow the association to do many things--from charity events to cultural events, or simply social get-togethers. The advisory board consists of department heads within the city of Manzanillo (including Mayor Rogelio Rueda), but the organization is looking for individuals interested in being on the working board, and serving on various committees.
Because of the cost of legal fees and various supplies, it was decided at the last board meeting to impose a low membership fee ($250 pesos/person) to cover costs. Local charitable organizations will receive all of the funds raised from events staged throughout the year.
The association's books are completely open, and will be available for members to see, with proper, convenient time allowance. The by-laws and the running of the association will be as directed by Robert's Rules of Order.
Manzamigos needs people with skills of all kinds! "Our aims are high, and our goals incredible, but we can't do it without your help!" says President Nigel Rumford. For more information, call (314) 333-3128, 334-2712 or 335-0778. E-mail: manzamigos@yahoo.com
B.U.C.E.A.A. (Buzos Unidos Conservar El Ambiente Acuatico) or Divers United to Conserve the Aquatic Environment need volunteers to set up a plastic and glass recycling center in Manzanillo, clean the beaches and take part in July's great annual fish count. Contact Carlos Cuellar, 333-3678 for more information.
