Divemaster Internship Position available:

GO PRO! Looking for the first step in working with scuba as a career? Your adventure into the professional levels of recreational scuba diving begins with the PADI Divemaster program.

Working closely with a PADI Instructor, in this program you expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, qualifying you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. PADI Divemaster is the prerequisite certification for both the PADI Assistant Instructor and PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certifications.

Get College Credit:

You may be able to earn college credit for the PADI Divemaster course.

What You Learn:

During the PADI Divemaster program, you learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent study. You complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as training exercises that stretch your ability to organize and solve problems as well as help others improve their scuba. You put this knowledge into action through a structured internship-- series of practical training exercises.

Take a PADI scuba diving internship as a dive shop employee at Underworld Scuba - Scuba Shack in Manzanillo on the Pacific Ocean side of Mexico, while training toward a professional PADI Divemaster & Instructor rating. The spotlight is on adventure and diving in a resort atmosphere. Extra focus is on learning about all of the local marine life, as well as understanding the necessity of conservation and environmental education in our pristine bays and coves. Train to be an excellent scuba diver, Divemaster and Instructor in a fun atmosphere.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is included in the Divemaster internship and Instructor programs. Interns will be living in two apartments behind the Dive Center, close to everything (bus, shopping, restaurants), and very safe. Includes WiFi, Cable TV, maid service, free ice and bottled water, washing machine on premises for use by interns.

Apartment #1 (accommodates 4)

Apartment #2 (accommodates 4)

Because Accommodation is limited we try to avoid overlaps. Therefore the internship starts every month, on the 1st of any month.

Time Period:

1 Month minimum.

For an Open Water Diver to attain the professional level of Divemaster, an 8 week internship is suggested. If you are entering our program as an Advanced Open Water Diver, we recommend 6 Weeks to complete your Divemaster/Assistant Instructor internship. For Rescue Certified divers, 4 weeks is typically enough time. You may be able to finish the course work sooner but gaining experience is the most important (and fun) part of the internship. If you are certified with an agency other than PADI, we can convert your current certification to the PADI system with no additional time or expense.

Food for your meals can be bought at large nearby supermarket and cooked at the kitchens in the apartments. There are also several local restaurants nearby of various calibers and prices.

Additional nights at the intern house before or after your internship are available for $10 per night.

ABOUT YOUR SAFETY: Much has been said lately about how dangerous it is in Mexico. Manzanillo and the state of Colima has been independently rated as being the safest place to live in the entire country.

The apartments behind the dive center are gated and barred for security, although we have never had an incident.

To concerned parents: Owners Susan Dearing and Carlos Cuellar are in their 60s, and our Master Scuba Diver Trainer Fernando Hernandez is in his 50s. We are mature and responsible. We care about making this a positive experience for your children. The dive center has been located here in Manzanillo for 20 years.

Your children will be very safe and secure here with us. We consider this internship program very serious, and are offering it this year for the first time for those who love diving, and want to make it their career just as we did.
