11 different cruise lines to visit
Manzanillo in 2007-08 season

Manzanillo received its first cruise ship visitors when Holland America's Zaandam docked October 4. Registered in the Netherlands, the ship held more than 1,200 passengers, and 600 crew members. They were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day with temperatures in the mid-80s.

The Zaandam visited visited Manzanillo once again on the 29th, and sister ships of Holland America will be docking throughout the winter season.

The luxurious new ms Zaandam is one of the newest members of Holland America's "next generation" of cruise ships. The Zaandam reflects a graceful combination of classic and state-of-the-art features. Highlights include an alternative restaurant, Internet Cafe, a third staircase for convenient access to public rooms and a children's play room, as well as more of the popular mini-suites with verandahs. The Zaandam's predominant theme is music and will be featured in the ship's artwork and interior design elements.

Another cruise line, Carnival, will make Manzanillo the last stop on its 8-day cruise (see map at right for other stops). Carnival Sprit will be docking in Manzanillo 22 times October through April.

Other ships making a day-long appearance in Manzanillo include: Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Norwegian, ms Europa, Volendam, Ryndam, and the Queen Victoria.

This information was provided by Lucina Romero Lopez, director of tourism for Manzanillo. For those of us who live in Manzanillo, let's make the cruisers feel welcome, and show them how friendly we can be. They could be our new neighbors one of these days.
